Abuja, Jan. 13, 2015 (NAN) Mr Stanley Bentu, an Abuja based music analyst, has called on Nigerian musicians to write musical lyrics that convey positive message in order to create lasting impression on their listeners.
Bentu, who anchors a programme, The Morning Mojo on ‘We FM’ Radio station, Abuja, made the call on Tuesday in Abuja in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said the essence of good music was to positively impact on the society.
“Each type of music is addressed to a particular individual, groups, society or nation; the lyrics must therefore address a particular issue,’’ he said.
He said that the lyrics in some music like “Make a Change’ by late Michael Jackson and “African Queen” by Tuface Idibia, had meaningful long lasting lyrics.
Bentu explained that being a good musician does not end with having the required talent, adding that it involves personal training.
“Most of our musicians started their music on a good note but could not sustain it due to poor lyrics.
“Talent brings out a person, but character and personal improvement sustains him.
“I urge our local and upcoming musicians to research in order to know the type of music their listeners love for their songs to have positive and lasting effect,“ Bentu said.
He said that music lovers would love to listen to good lyrics capable of provoking positive changes in the society.
“Music lovers do not require unwholesome music that only ends at provoking their dancing steps,’’ Bentu said. (NAN)
